Getting Online – Domains and DNS

A primary task for getting your website up and running is choosing a domain name.
Once you’ve searched for the name you want, and chosen whether to use .com or .co.uk, you can register it and start using it.

You will then be able to have your website address and email addresses that go with it.
This gives you a professional image compared to using a free email address.

DNS records are records which tell web users where to go for various services.
An MX record tells you which server email should get sent to.
An A or CNAME record tells you where the website is hosted and things like FTP servers and sub sites.

Often authentication to cloud services will ask you to add a record to your DNS to prove you own the domain.
Keep your information from registering your domain and DNS mangement.

If you are a client of AtomLondon then we would handle that network admin for you and let you know when it was time to renew.
